Take it from me, you would have to have a pretty tiny spot not to be able to plant a home garden, my wife and I started with one pot growing tomatoes.

The first home we had after we got marrried, 27 years ago, would have been great for a home garden unfortunately at that time we had too many other things on our mind, like college and parties. These days we are more than eager to have a home garden. We may not have to deal with the lay-offs and down sizing but we do feel the pinch from the current recession and love the idea of growing some of our own vegetables.

With just a few home gardening tips you will find a home garden, no matter how tiny, can still produce food you won’t have to buy. We started with tomatoes as they are pretty easy to grow and produce a lot of fruit.

Home Garden Tip One: Try Container Gardening. We went for a long time thinking we couldn’t have a home garden because we didn’t have any ground but we learned that we could have veggies growing in containers and that’s when we discovered the joy of gardening at home, so don’t assume you can’t.

When you start your container gardening like we did for our first home garden remember you can stack them and move them around so they get the best lighting for the time of day.

We had a real issue with sunlight, and not getting enough, but when we started moving our containers so the got the best light the amount of produce we got went way up.

    So don’t assume.

Home Garden Tip Two: Use A Shelving Unit To Stack Containers. This may seem like it would go without saying but we didn’t clue into to using space above the ground. What a difference it made when we started using a shelving unit to put our containers and pots one above the other.

We have a much bigger property now with lots of space for our home garden but we still grow a lot in containers, like herbs. We still grow herbs in the house so we have fresh herbs all year round. Give herb gardening a try as your first home garden, they are easy to grow.
